Development of functional feeds for better animal production

We explore agricultural by-products for the development of functional feeds. We found that the agricultural by-products rich in dietary fiber and/or polyphenols can be a good source for the improvement of animal health through the modulation of gut microbiota. For methane mitigation from ruminants, we identified the antimicrobial compounds from cashew nut shell liquid and gingko fruit and elucidated mode of action of modulation of rumen microbiota by those agents.
